The Nebraska men’s basketball team downed Grand Valley State 73-53 in an exhibition game Sunday in front of 14,015 fans at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.
The Huskers took a 35-30 halftime lead after beginning a 30-6 run late in the first half. NU scored seven of the last nine points of the first half as the Lakers went cold, missing 14 of 15 shots in the first nine minutes of the second half.
Grand Valley State, from Allendale, Mich., plays at the NCAA Division II level in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Rutgers transfer Gavin Griffiths’ led NU in scoring with 14 points and hit 4 of 6 3-pointers. Brice Williams added 13 points, and Juwan Gary added nine points and three assists. Berke Büyüktuncel grabbed 12 rebounds to lead NU on the boards.
Nebraska had 13 steals, including three from Rollie Worster and two apiece from Gary and Büyüktuncel.
The Huskers started Gary, Williams, Worster, Braxton Meah and Connor Essegian. Nine Huskers played more than 14 minutes.
Mason Docks had seven points to lead Grand Valley State which shot 28% from the floor, including 17% in the final 20 minutes.
The Huskers open the 2024-25 season Nov. 4 against UT Rio Grande Valley in Lincoln.
